Religious Event : Waso robe offering ceremony at Shwedagon Pagoda

The annual Waso robe offering ceremony for the Buddhist Lent was held at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon on Wednesday. Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, regional government members, officials, religious associations, donors, and large crowds of devotees joined the event. The ceremony began with offerings of alms, flowers, water, fruits, and oil lamps at the southern stairway. Devotees carried Waso robes around the pagoda in clockwise procession, making donations along the way. Later, the Chief Minister and officials offered robes to the Padamya Myet Shin Buddha image and to the four sacred relic shrines. Religious groups and donors also contributed robes and offerings. The traditional Waso robe offering ceremony is a major annual Buddhist event in Myanmar, marking the start of the rainy retreat season for monks.
