Chanmyay Sayadaw, Bhaddanta Janakabhivamsa, who founded Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre and its branches domestically and abroad, passed away at 11:45 AM on September 19th while receiving medical treatment at Grand Hantha Hospital in Yangon, as announced by the Chanmyay Yeiktha Monastery. The Sayadaw became a novice at the age of 15 and obtained the Abhivamsa title from the Mandalay Pariyattisasanahita Association before turning 27. It is said that the Sayadaw diligently practiced Vipassana meditation under Mahasi Sayadaw in 1953. Following that, the Sayadaw founded the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Yangon to enable yogis to practice meditation, and also established branch centres domestically and abroad. Chanmyay Sayadaw, who contributed to the propagation of Vipassana meditation, was 99 years old and had spent 79 rainy seasons at the time of his passing.
