Phnom Penh Water Authority Addresses Water Shortage with Infrastructure Upgrades for 9 Villages

The Phnom Penh Water Authority is urgently carrying out infrastructure development work to address the problems of water shortage and low water pressure affecting residents in 9 villages within the Stung Mean Chey 2 commune. This initiative responds to the needs of residents experiencing daytime water shortages, with the technical team working late into the night on concrete cutting and excavation to increase water pressure and flow in the water supply system. The operation took place on July 23rd, from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM, focusing on areas with severe low water pressure, particularly east of the Stung Mean Chey 'Chomreuk Chhrouk' (Elephant Trunk Underpass), in Damnak Tom 1 village. The team cut pavement in front of residents' homes and laid 100 meters of water pipes to boost pressure. Additionally, they performed 28 meters of further excavation along Street 217. As of 7:30 PM on the same day, the overall progress of the construction site has reached approximately 50%. The team will continue active operations tomorrow to complete the system. Authorities expect that this project will soon allow all residents in the 9 villages of Stung Mean Chey 2 commune to have sufficient clean water supply at their respective homes. This infrastructure improvement is a vital undertaking for stabilizing residents' lives amidst the challenges of urban population concentration and aging infrastructure in Phnom Penh. While infrastructure investment plays a significant role in Cambodia's relations with China, domestic infrastructure development is also an urgent priority, making the strengthening of the water network a crucial policy directly impacting citizens' daily lives.
