Cambodia's Ministry of Environment Announces Enhanced Cooperation with Environmentalists

The Ministry of Environment of Cambodia has announced its intention to expand cooperation with environmental activists to strengthen natural resource management and combat illegal activities. On August 3rd, senior officials from the ministry met with Mr. Mar Chitra and his team at the Ministry of Environment headquarters to discuss the expansion of natural resource management through increased cooperation between Ministry of Environment officials and environmentalists, in the spirit of Khmer unity. The Ministry of Environment considers this to be another significant step in collaborative efforts to jointly monitor, prevent, and crack down on illegal activities in natural protected areas, thereby ensuring the sustainable protection and conservation of forests in Cambodia. Within this framework, the Ministry of Environment has identified key points for this cooperation, defining it as 'Strategy 2.1' and the second phase of implementing Pillar 2, 'Green,' of the Environmental Sector Chakra Strategy. This strategy focuses on strengthening natural resource management to ensure environmental sustainability. Concurrently, the Ministry of Environment expressed its gratitude to civil society organizations, stakeholders, and especially environmental activists and local communities who have actively cooperated with park rangers in suppressing and preventing forest-related offenses. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, stated that this cooperation reflects a strong commitment and significant contribution to the protection and conservation of Cambodia's invaluable forests and natural resources.
