Heavy rains expected in Rakhine State next week, flood warning issued

Ayeyarwaddy Times July 10 The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced today, July 10, that due to strong monsoon winds in the Bay of Bengal and the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are expected to continue across states and regions from today, July 10, to the 18th. The DMH's announcement stated that localized heavy rains are expected in Rakhine State, where floods are currently occurring, with a possibility of rainfall exceeding 4 to 5 inches. It has been warned that due to the strengthening of the monsoon winds, heavy rainfall, strong winds, flash floods, and landslides may occur, and residents living near small rivers and streams need to be cautious of floods. According to the DMH, heavy thunderstorms are expected in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Bago Region, Upper Sagaing Region, Ayeyarwaddy Region, and Tanintharyi Region next week, with localized heavy rains in some areas. It is also reported that heavy thunderstorms are expected in Kachin State, Kayin State, Chin State, Mon State, Rakhine State, and Shan State (Northern and Eastern parts), with localized heavy rains in some areas. Along the Myanmar coast and offshore waters, squalls and strong winds may occur at times, with waves potentially reaching 9 to 12 feet high, and winds blowing at 30 to 35 miles per hour over the sea and land. Therefore, the DMH stated that domestic flights, and coastal and offshore fishing vessels and ships along the Myanmar coast and offshore waters need to take precautions in advance.
