Ho Chi Minh City Hosts Running Event Promoting Ethical Cyberspace Use

A large-scale running event was held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's economic hub, to raise awareness about ethical conduct and information security in the digital realm. On the morning of August 9, at the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Ministry of Public Security), in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Police and the National Cybersecurity Association, organized the "Vietnam Cybersecurity Day Running 2026." Over 1,000 citizens participated in this event, aiming to enhance awareness for the healthy development and utilization of cyberspace. In recent years, Vietnam has undergone rapid digitalization, with the proliferation of the internet and social media becoming indispensable to daily life. However, risks such as information leakage, fraud, and the spread of misinformation in cyberspace are also increasing, necessitating a societal shift in awareness to address these challenges. This event, held against this backdrop, served as an opportunity to emphasize the importance of responsible digital behavior for each participant. Under Vietnam's one-party communist system, the government prioritizes information control and the maintenance of social order. The management of cyberspace is part of this, with the government promoting legal frameworks and awareness campaigns to protect national security and stability. For a rapidly growing economy like Vietnam, ensuring a healthy cyberspace is crucial for attracting domestic and foreign investment and fostering innovation. Furthermore, given Vietnam's complex relationship with China, vigilance against cyber warfare and influence operations in cyberspace is consistently maintained at a high level. This event is also considered to have the aim of strengthening domestic cybersecurity capabilities and increasing the public's defensive awareness against external threats.
