Bangkok Seeks Adopters for Cats Rescued From Fatal House Fire
Following a fatal house fire in Bangkok that claimed the lives of 73 out of nearly 100 cats, 17 surviving felines are now seeking new homes. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the scene and urged public vigilance against fire hazards.
Bangkok is seeking new owners for cats rescued from a fatal house fire that tragically claimed the lives of their elderly caretakers and the vast majority of their feline companions. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the scene of the blaze on Soi Somdet Phra Chao Taksin 11 on July 18. The fire, which authorities believe led to the deaths of an elderly couple living on the second floor due to smoke inhalation, resulted in the loss of 73 out of nearly 100 cats the couple had been caring for. Firefighters arrived promptly, but the flames had spread rapidly, making it impossible to save all the animals. While occupants of the neighboring house were rescued, only 19 cats survived the inferno. Two of these survivors received veterinary treatment, while the remaining 17 were temporarily housed by the Thon Buri District Office before being transferred to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Dog Control Centre (Prawet) at noon on July 18. They are now awaiting adoption. "Although firefighters arrived quickly, it is not always possible to save lives because of factors such as smoke inhalation and the speed at which a fire spreads," Governor Chadchart stated, offering his condolences to the victims' family. He also urged the public to remain vigilant about fire hazards to help prevent similar tragedies. Individuals interested in adopting the rescued cats can contact the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Dog Control Centre (Prawet) on weekdays between 08:00 and 15:00, or visit the BKK Adopter Facebook page for more information.
