Cambodia Promotes Buddhism - Banteay Meanchey Governor Honors Buddhist Leader

In Banteay Meanchey province, northwestern Cambodia, Governor Ou Ratry presented a certificate to Venerable Punharaksmongkol Ri Ram, the chief monk of Rattana Kunnaram Pagoda (also known as Rong Go Pagoda). The ceremony, held on Friday, September 11, 2026, recognized the monk's dedication to promoting Buddhism and preserving the cultural, traditional, and moral values of the Cambodian people. The event was held at Rattana Kunnaram Pagoda in Chomroum commune, Mongkul Borei district, Banteay Meanchey province, under the auspices of His Excellency Ou Ratry, Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province. It was attended by His Eminence Thul Sothea, a distinguished Buddhist dignitary and the chief monk of Banteay Meanchey province, along with other monks, government officials, teachers, students, and a large number of Buddhist followers. Governor Ou Ratry warmly congratulated Venerable Punharaksmongkol Ri Ram on receiving the certificate and the ceremonial pouring of consecrated water. His Excellency considered this achievement a noble honor stemming from sincere service to Buddhism and the nation. He emphasized that the progress of Buddhism requires the participation of all parties, especially monks, devotees, local authorities, and relevant institutions, to jointly preserve and disseminate Buddhist teachings, morality, and virtues to the younger generation and future citizens. The governor also highlighted the role of monks in educating the minds and morals of the people. He stated that pagodas are not merely places for merit-making and worship but also centers for education, knowledge sharing, and fostering moral conduct and harmonious living among the populace. His Eminence Thul Sothea, a distinguished Buddhist dignitary and the chief monk of Banteay Meanchey province, stated that the awarding of the certificate and the ceremonial pouring of consecrated water is a significant event in the Buddhist sector, reflecting respect for monks who diligently serve the faith and contribute to preserving Buddhist doctrines, discipline, and noble traditions. His Eminence advised all monks to continue adhering to Buddhist teachings and discipline, and to serve as exemplary role models for devotees, particularly the younger generation. He also appealed to all Buddhists to continue supporting and promoting the Buddhist sector through practicing dharma, observing precepts, making merit, and contributing to the maintenance of pagodas, which are valuable religious and cultural heritage of the nation.
