Vietnam President To Lam Engages with Global Leaders in New York

Vietnamese President To Lam has actively engaged in diplomatic efforts in New York during his attendance at the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. From September 21 to 23, he held a series of meetings with US lawmakers, UN officials, and leaders of major US corporations, emphasizing the importance of strengthening international cooperation and multilateralism. Notably, President To Lam met with US Senator Steve Daines (Montana) and Thomas R. Hardy, Acting Director of the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). He expressed Vietnam's intention to advance cooperation with the US based on legitimate interests, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. Discussions also took place with leaders from prominent US groups such as Warburg Pincus, Boeing, and Apple regarding investment, aviation, and technology cooperation. In his engagements with the UN, President To Lam met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who affirmed the UN's support for Vietnam's stronger engagement in peacekeeping operations. Additionally, Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the UNDP, noted that Vietnam's journey of transformation from war to peace and from underdevelopment to prosperity offers valuable lessons for fostering trust and enhancing the effectiveness of multilateralism. Furthermore, President To Lam held meetings with the Presidents of Timor-Leste, Switzerland, and Finland to discuss the development of bilateral relations. Vietnam has proposed four major orientations to steer and manage change, ensuring that competition does not turn into confrontation, differences do not lead to conflict, and scientific-technological progress does not create new divisions. Vietnam's commitment to peacekeeping operations was also highlighted. A Royal Australian Air Force C-17 military transport aircraft arrived in Hanoi to carry Vietnam's Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 to South Sudan, showcasing Vietnam's expertise and dedication on the international stage. Vietnam has clearly demonstrated its commitment to enhancing its presence on the international stage and actively contributing to global problem-solving.
