Bangkok Governor Affirms Transparency in EV Garbage Truck Project, Denies Corruption Allegations

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has strongly emphasized the transparency of the EV (Electric Vehicle) garbage truck project and denied allegations of corruption following budget cuts. He stated that most stakeholders agree that garbage trucks must eventually transition to EVs. However, as long as questions remain regarding the details, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is prepared to have its officials explain the project to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council through the established process. "Since I became Bangkok Governor, I have always known that I must work collaboratively with the Bangkok Metropolitan Council. I am not an enemy to anyone, as my goal is to achieve the maximum benefit for the citizens. However, please do not accuse us of corruption or dishonesty, as we do not engage in such activities. We must work together for the benefit of the people," Governor Chadchart stated. He affirmed that the project is being conducted with transparency and that officials are constantly monitoring it. Nevertheless, since the project has not been approved, the BMA must revert to its previous method of leasing fuel-powered garbage trucks. The plan to introduce EV garbage trucks was intended to reduce environmental impact and operational costs. However, some raised concerns about the contract details and selection process, leading to opposition during the budget deliberation stage.
