Cambodian National Assembly Chairman to Visit Vietnam, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The President of the Cambodian National Assembly is scheduled to visit Vietnam next week, marking an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation. Vietnam stresses that fostering friendship and cooperation with Cambodia is both a political responsibility and a practical requirement for development. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Dak Lak Party Committee, stated that nurturing friendship and cooperation with Mondulkiri province is essential for development. Vietnam is ready to share training expertise, dispatch delegations for exchanges, and welcome Cambodian delegations for study visits and experience sharing. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Doan Anh welcomed the Cambodian delegation's participation in the ASEAN Future Forum 2026, noting it contributed to the event's success and reflected the friendship, solidarity, and political trust shared by the two Parties, States, and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia. Vietnam emphasizes that under the leadership of the Party and the unified management of the State, people-to-people diplomacy will continue to serve as a sustainable bridge of friendship, an important channel for converging resources, spreading soft power, and protecting national interests, thereby contributing to building the overall strength of Vietnamese diplomacy in the new era of development. More than a year after Vietnam embarked on its sweeping administrative restructuring, the country's governance system has undergone significant changes. The administrative apparatus at all levels has been streamlined, intermediate layers reduced, and the functions, responsibilities, and authority of state agencies have been gradually clarified. Greater decentralization has also strengthened the role of grassroots authorities. Vietnam is committed to responsible natural resource governance and stands ready to work closely with international partners to ensure natural resources become a driver of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development. Science and technology are playing an increasingly important role in identifying fallen soldiers' remains, with next-generation gene sequencing technologies opening new possibilities by significantly improving the ability to identify severely degraded DNA samples. Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the Philippines, the European Union, and Norway on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the Philippines. During these meetings, the importance of maintaining peace and stability and upholding international law in the East Sea was stressed. Regarding relations with China, Vietnam affirmed its commitment to continue working towards the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the early conclusion of a substantive and effective Code of Conduct (COC) consistent with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Vietnam regards the US as one of its leading important partners, noting that bilateral relations are built on a solid foundation and hold significant potential for further development. Proposals were also made within the ASEAN+3 framework to prioritize stronger regional resilience by scaling up energy cooperation, pooling financial resources, and cracking down on illegal fishing, aiming to build a resilient and sustainable blue economy.
