Cambodia Deploys Over 400 Mobile Water Pumps to Combat Drought

On July 17, 2026, H.E. Thor Cheath, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, inspected mobile water pumps at the machinery and vehicle assembly base located in Kok Romiet Village, Kandal Stoeng District, Kandal Province. H.E. the Minister praised and highly valued the diligent efforts and high sense of responsibility demonstrated by the leadership and technical officers of the Department of Agricultural Irrigation in preparing, managing, maintaining, and repairing the mobile water pumps and machinery, as well as in organizing the surrounding environment and location. H.E. the Minister stated that the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has prepared a total of over 400 mobile water pumps, including 115 units of 65-horsepower pumps at the ministry and approximately 300 units at provincial and municipal departments. These are ready for timely and highly effective intervention in water-scarce areas during future droughts. This initiative is a significant step towards stabilizing Cambodia's agricultural production base and minimizing the impact on citizens' lives. Strengthening response capabilities against drought risks, exacerbated by increasingly frequent extreme weather events in recent years, is a pressing priority.
