Vietnam Strengthens Cooperation with Laos on War Dead Remains Recovery

A specialized team based in Hue, central Vietnam, has commenced a mission to search for, recover, and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese martyrs from the war within Laos. This operation will be conducted in close coordination with Lao authorities and armed forces. The Vietnamese government has designated the recovery of martyrs' remains as a national priority, with 917 sets of remains having been recovered nationwide to date. A total of 264 sampling teams have been mobilized, involving over 3,500 personnel. This initiative is viewed as a key component of the nation's policy under its one-party system, aimed at fostering patriotism and strengthening national loyalty. The current mission in Laos is a preparatory step for the K92 Team under the An Giang Military Command to conduct surveys, gather information, and search for, collect, and repatriate fallen soldiers' remains in Kep Province during the 2026-2027 dry season. Both sides have reviewed the outcomes of their joint efforts in recent years and confirmed their cooperation for the smooth implementation of future activities. In recent years, Vietnam has increasingly recognized overseas Vietnamese as a vital strategic resource, seeking to leverage their knowledge and networks for national development.
