Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia Launches Free Eye Health Program in Partnership with Nepal

On the morning of July 4, 2026, H.E. Un Chan Da, Governor of Kampong Cham Province, presided over the opening ceremony of a two-day free eye health examination and treatment program for the residents of Kampong Cham Province, commencing from July 4 to July 5, 2026. This significant humanitarian program was organized through a collaboration between the Kampong Cham Provincial Administration, the Kampong Chamber of Commerce, and a team of expert ophthalmologists from the Nepal Netra Jyoti Lumbini Eye Institute, under the direct leadership of the Nepalese Ambassador to Cambodia. The opening ceremony was held with great fanfare at the Kampong Cham Provincial Referral Hospital, attended by numerous government officials, armed forces personnel, local authorities, and a large number of citizens. During his address to the citizens receiving medical services, H.E. Un Chan Da, Governor of Kampong Cham Province, emphasized that this meaningful gathering clearly demonstrates the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance within society, aligning with the political program of the 7th mandate government led by H.E. Dr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Prime Minister consistently prioritizes the well-being of the people, particularly the enhancement of their quality of life and health. His Excellency the Governor further stated that to achieve these goals, the Prime Minister has strived to implement numerous political programs, especially by fostering strong partnerships. This involves encouraging provincial administrations and all relevant institutions to collaborate with stakeholders, both domestic and international, to provide essential services, protection, and benefits to the citizens. Thus, the presence of expert ophthalmologists from Nepal, led by the Nepalese Ambassador to Cambodia, represents an excellent partnership with the Kampong Cham Provincial Administration under the umbrella of the government's political program, offering immense benefits to the public through free eye health services. H.E. Un Chan Da highlighted that good health for citizens translates into significant savings on healthcare expenditures. The provision of free eye examinations and treatments will alleviate the financial burden on residents, especially those from less fortunate backgrounds who may lack the means to access private medical care. These benefits contribute significantly to poverty reduction by helping maintain good health. When citizens are healthy and free from chronic diseases, they can save money, invest in their savings, expand their small businesses, and improve their family's living standards.
