Vietnam Advocates for Stronger Multilateral System

Vietnam is strongly advocating for a more robust and effective multilateral system on the international stage, underscoring its role as a cornerstone of the nation's foreign policy amidst its pursuit of economic growth and expanding global influence. Recent diplomatic engagements highlight this commitment. Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang led the Vietnamese delegation to the 32nd ASEAN-China Senior Officials’ Consultation (ACSOC) and the 26th ASEAN-China Senior Officials’ Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (ASEAN-China SOM-DOC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Vietnam has consistently affirmed its active participation in international forums and its enactment of legislation aligned with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), while supporting its universalisation. Vietnam's growing international standing is further evidenced by its recent re-election as a member of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the 2025-2031 term, securing a significant 175 out of 183 votes. This achievement underscores Vietnam's credibility and contributions in international law and trade. Bilateral relations are also being actively strengthened. The elevation of ties with India to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam’s visit in May 2026 marks a significant milestone, reflecting a deep traditional friendship and high political trust. Furthermore, recent high-level exchanges, including the State visit of the King of Thailand and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's engagements with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, and Burundi, demonstrate Vietnam's proactive approach to diversifying and deepening its external relations. Domestically, the Communist Party is focusing on fostering an environment where officials are encouraged to think creatively, act decisively, and innovate for the common good. This initiative aims to address emerging challenges within Vietnam's socialist-oriented market economy, ensuring that principles remain valid while adapting to new realities in ownership, production, distribution, and the responsibilities of Party members. Vietnam's development model, centered on people, institutional reform, modern governance, and science and technology, prioritizes harmony among economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection. At international forums like the BRICS Summit, Vietnam has expressed its readiness to cooperate with global partners to build a peaceful, prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive future for all.
