Hue City Appoints New Chairman Le Tri Thanh

Hue City in central Vietnam has elected Le Tri Thanh as its new Chairman for the 2026-2031 term. Thanh, 56, hails from Quang Nam province and holds master's degrees in Public Policy, Law, Finance, and Politics. Thanh has a notable career history, having served as Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Nam province, Head of the Investment Promotion and Enterprise Support Agency, Chairman of Dien Ban town (formerly Dien Ban district), and Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee. In November 2019, he was elected Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee. Following the merger of Quang Nam province and Da Nang city on July 1, 2025, Thanh was appointed Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang city. On July 15, he was approved by the Central Secretariat as Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term. On the afternoon of July 26, Thanh was elected to the Standing Committee of the Hue City Party Committee and the Hue City Party Committee, and appointed Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term. From January 2025, Hue is set to become a centrally-governed city with an area of 4,947 square kilometers, a population exceeding 1.2 million, and 40 commune-level administrative units. During the 2020-2025 period, the city's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) grew by an average of 7.54% annually, with per capita income reaching $3,200 USD and total state budget revenue at VND 64.5 trillion.
