Popular Boxer Sok Thi Arrested on Suspicion of Drug Possession

Sok Thi, also known as Kaka, a prominent Kun Khmer (Khmer boxing) fighter, has been arrested by authorities in Kandal province on suspicion of drug use and possession. According to sources, Sok Thi is currently being held temporarily at the Kandal Stung District Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway. The arrest took place last weekend in Vihar village, Kandal Stung district, Kandal province. Sok Thi, originally from O Prasat village, O Prasat commune, Mongol Borei district, Banteay Meanchey province, currently resides in Phnom Penh. His arrest is deeply regrettable news for his fellow fighters and fans. Sok Thi was known for his unparalleled fighting style in the 60kg weight class, once even surpassing Peth Sambath in strength. Many had high hopes for his future, expecting him to command a high value comparable to Cambodia's top athletes. However, it remains unclear whether family issues or other factors led to his involvement with drugs, tarnishing his reputation and career. Reports indicate that Sok Thi and his father previously worked as construction laborers in Thailand for many years, where he trained in boxing and gained fame. His fight purse for appearances in the ring reportedly reached thousands of dollars, depending on the event. It is unknown what issues he faced in Thailand that led to his return to Cambodia and subsequent training and competition under the KKIS club, managed by Mr. Srey Chan Thon. Sok Thi is recognized as a fighter particularly skilled in using elbows and knees.
