Vietnam Party Central Committee Calls for Swift Implementation of New Decisions
The 14th Party Central Committee concluded its third meeting, urging the swift implementation of newly adopted Party decisions. Discussions covered strengthening social discipline, ensuring security, developing a national security strategy, and upgrading Quang Ninh and Bac Ninh provinces. Vietnam also emphasized enhancing ASEAN cooperation and adhering to international law.
The third meeting of the 14th Party Central Committee concluded in Hanoi on the afternoon of July 24, 2026. The committee considered proposals on building a disciplined, safe, civilized, and development-oriented society, developing a national security strategy, and upgrading Quang Ninh and Bac Ninh provinces to centrally-governed cities. The meeting, which opened on July 20, called on the entire Party, people, and armed forces to uphold patriotism, strengthen unity, promote self-reliance, innovation, and creativity, overcome challenges, and work together to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress. Vietnam's role in ASEAN and adherence to international law were also emphasized. The Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed the commitment to continue working with China to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and to conclude at an early date a substantive and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) consistent with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Bilateral meetings were also held with the Foreign Ministers of the Philippines, the European Commission, and Norway, reaffirming the importance of bilateral partnerships. As an important member of ASEAN, Vietnam has contributed to the region's political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars. The ASEAN Secretary-General expressed confidence that Vietnam will continue to play an active role in advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. The upcoming official visit to Vietnam by the President of the Cambodian National Assembly also signals deepening regional cooperation. Domestically, administrative restructuring is progressing, with efforts to streamline the apparatus, reduce intermediate layers, and clarify the functions, responsibilities, and authority of state agencies. The role of grassroots authorities is also being strengthened. Science and technology, particularly advancements in DNA sequencing, are playing a crucial role in identifying the remains of fallen soldiers. Vietnam is committed to responsible natural resource governance and stands ready to work closely with international partners to ensure natural resources become a driver of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
