Sihanoukville Authorities Launch Initiative to Improve Market Area Order and Sanitation

SIHANOUKVILLE Province, Cambodia -- On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the Traffic Order Office of the Sihanoukville Provincial Police, in cooperation with the Sihanoukville City Commune Police Force and the KSWM waste collection company, launched an initiative to educate the public and organize traffic around the central market. The operation aimed to address issues of public disorder, particularly traffic congestion in the vicinity of the market, caused by street vendors and illegal parking on public roads. The efforts focused on promoting public understanding to cease roadside vending and vehicle parking on sidewalks. The objective is to maintain order, ensure traffic safety, prevent congestion, and facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to enhance the city's hygiene and improve the aesthetic appeal of Sihanoukville as a prominent tourist destination in the region. It is recalled that the Sihanoukville City Administration has been actively engaged in widening and improving concrete roads around the central market to better serve transportation and tourism. The central market is a popular destination for both local residents and international tourists, particularly for its fresh seafood such as crabs, shrimp, and squid. The Traffic Order Office also urged citizens and business owners to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and refraining from parking on public roads, which disrupts public order.
