Grenade Wired to Warehouse Door in Chiang Rai, Business Dispute Suspected

CHIANG RAI – Police and bomb experts are investigating a shocking discovery in Chiang Rai this week. Late Tuesday night, locals found a hand grenade wired to a warehouse door. The building sits in Wiang Kaen District, Chiang Rai, right on the border with Laos. It serves as a local buying station where farmers sell their bean crops. Authorities identified the explosive as an old F-1 hand grenade dating back to World War II. The suspect used strong wire to tie the rusty grenade directly to the main padlock. If anyone had tried to open the door, it could have easily pulled the safety pin. This action might have triggered a deadly explosion, assuming the old weapon still worked. The agricultural warehouse belongs to a local businessman identified only as Mr. Anuchat. Local authorities received the urgent report around 9:00 p.m. on September 22. A joint response team quickly rushed to the rural village to handle the immediate threat. This group included border patrol soldiers, district police, and local village leaders. They immediately set up a safety perimeter using car tires and heavy tables. On September 23, the local police called in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit. These highly trained bomb experts will safely remove the rusty weapon from the door. No one is allowed near the building until the area is completely cleared. This extreme caution is necessary because old explosives can be highly unstable and unpredictable. Meanwhile, investigators are actively looking for the person who planted the deadly device. Early police reports suggest the bomb was meant to scare the warehouse owner. Investigators believe a bitter business dispute is the most likely motive for this crime.
