Heavy Rains Cause Flooding in Phnom Penh; Authorities Clear Debris from Drainage Systems

A heavy downpour on the afternoon of September 10th has caused flooding in parts of Phnom Penh, particularly in Chom Chao 3 district. Large amounts of garbage were observed floating in canals and drainage systems, obstructing water flow and leading to inundation. Following the directive from the Governor of Phnom Penh and the Governor of Por Sen Chey District, Mr. Va Savoeun, the District Chief of Chom Chao 3, led a team to the affected area. In Prey Tounh Cheung 2 village, within Chom Chao 3 district, along National Road 4, the district chief observed that the drainage canals and culverts were severely blocked by floating debris. This blockage was causing slow water flow and contributing to the flooding of several areas. In response, Mr. Va Savoeun mobilized district officials and civil defense forces to clear the garbage from the canals and around the culverts. The operation aims to prevent further flooding and restore efficient water drainage. Mr. Va Savoeun also urged residents in the affected areas to cooperate in maintaining environmental hygiene and to refrain from dumping waste into waterways, as this is a primary cause of drainage blockages and subsequent flooding.
