Integrating Gender Considerations: MOWA UM delivered the opening remarks

A workshop on integrating gender considerations into emergency response and recovery operations was held on August 5, at Hotel Max in Nay Pyi Taw. The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Myanmar National Women's Committee, Union Minister for Women's Affairs Dr. Thet Thet Zin, who delivered the opening speech. In her opening address, Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Zin emphasized that a one-size-fits-all approach to emergency response and recovery is insufficient, and that it is necessary to adopt a gender-responsive approach that carefully analyzes and addresses needs based on gender differences. She noted that integrating gender considerations into emergency and recovery processes can foster stronger collaboration among government departments, local authorities, community organizations, and partner agencies. She urged participants to engage in positive and active discussions and exchanges to ensure the effective application of a gender lens at every stage of the disaster response process. The workshop was attended by 40 representatives from the Ministry of Women's Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.
