Kampong Speu Province Eyes Major Chinese Investment, Expecting Tens of Thousands of New Jobs

Kampong Speu Province in Cambodia is taking a significant step towards attracting large-scale investment from China. According to Provincial Governor Cham Chansophoan, approximately 42 Chinese companies from various industrial sectors have expressed their interest in making substantial investments in Kampong Speu in the near future. This announcement comes after a delegation from Kampong Speu met with representatives from 35 Chinese companies during an investment promotion event held in Nanjing, China, on September 18. Governor Cham Chansophoan stated that the provincial delegation presented the province's abundant potential and the significant number of investors already operating within Kampong Speu. The representatives from these enterprises pledged to visit Kampong Speu soon to explore investment opportunities. The nine key sectors targeted for investment include: 1) Agriculture and agro-processing, 2) Industry and manufacturing, 3) Construction and building materials, 4) Tourism and culture, 5) Investment and commerce, 6) Technology and digital, 7) Mining, 8) Logistics and transportation, and 9) New energy and environment. Governor Cham Chansophoan further noted that among the interested companies, some are existing investors seeking to expand their operations, while others are new entrants planning to establish factories in the province. To support this potential influx of Chinese investment, the provincial administration has emphasized its commitment to creating a warm and welcoming environment. This includes ensuring hospitality for investors, as well as guaranteeing public security, order, and the streamlining of all necessary procedures. Currently, Kampong Speu Province already boasts a robust industrial presence with nearly 3,000 factories and enterprises, employing approximately 400,000 workers, not including those employed in animal farms and plantations. The growth of these industries has been crucial in absorbing labor from surrounding provinces, thereby strengthening the regional economy. If these anticipated investments materialize, it is expected that tens of thousands of additional job opportunities will be created, further solidifying the province's status as a vital economic hub in Cambodia.
