Vietnam Seizes Drone Opportunity to Boost Economy and Integrate into Global Value Chains

Vietnam is seizing opportunities to expand the application of drone technology and foster industrial development through the Low-Altitude Economic Forum and UAV Industry Conference 2026. This event aims not only to update trends and identify policy issues but also to build a foundation for Vietnamese enterprises to enhance their technological capabilities, develop supply chains, and gradually turn the low-altitude economy into a new growth driver for Vietnam. Da Nang city, in particular, is opening up the low-altitude space, moving from piloting services to establishing new economic infrastructure. The development of the low-altitude economy holds the potential to open up previously unutilized spaces for economic activities, with applications expected in diverse fields such as infrastructure development, logistics, surveillance, and agriculture. This initiative is expected to provide a new impetus for Vietnam's economic growth. The Vietnamese government, prioritizing economic growth under its one-party system, is actively promoting the adoption of advanced technologies and the development of domestic industries, with UAV technology being one of its core focuses. Furthermore, by participating more deeply in global value chains, Vietnam aims to enhance its international competitiveness. For instance, Dien Bien province is scheduled to conduct pilot projects for low-altitude economic development involving approximately 6,000 UAV flights. This represents a crucial step in demonstrating concrete applications of UAV technology in rural areas and verifying its economic effects. In its relationship with China, Vietnam seeks to deepen economic ties while simultaneously increasing its economic independence through technological development and supply chain diversification. The localization and widespread adoption of UAV technology can be seen as part of this strategy.
