Cambodian Red Cross Provides Humanitarian Homes to Needy Families in Banteay Meanchey

The Cambodian Red Cross, Banteay Meanchey Provincial Branch, in the spirit of humanitarianism and concern for citizens facing difficulties, has provided two 'Homes of Humanity' to two families experiencing poverty and lacking the means to build housing. This initiative aims to contribute to improving their livelihoods and offering new hope to vulnerable families. These two humanitarian homes were handed over to residents in Diloeth and Kieb villages, O'Ambel commune, Banteay Meanchey province's Serei Sophorn City, on September 11, 2026. The ceremony was presided over by HE Um Ratry, Governor of the province and Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Branch, with the participation of HE Chey Nary Um Ratry, HE Nuom Sophann, honorary vice-chairpersons of the branch, as well as members and relevant working groups. During the occasion, HE Um Ratry conveyed greetings from HE Dit Tina, honorary chairman of the branch, and especially from Samdech Kittipreah Boun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, who consistently cares for and pays attention to the well-being of citizens in all circumstances, ensuring no one in difficulty is left behind. HE Um Ratry highlighted that the handover of these humanitarian homes is a concrete action demonstrating the Cambodian Red Cross's contribution to responding to the needs of vulnerable citizens, in line with the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and the theme 'Continuing to Unite for Humanity'. The chairman stated, 'This activity is in line with the theme 'Continuing to Unite for Humanity.' As branch chairman, I am extremely pleased to witness the close cooperation among the working teams of the humanitarian movement at all levels. This is a key factor enabling the branch's humanitarian movement to achieve its goals and reach those truly in need.' The provision of these humanitarian homes is not merely the offering of shelter, but rather the provision of safety, dignity, and hope to families who previously lacked the means to arrange suitable housing for their daily lives. For the families receiving the new homes, each house signifies more than its material value; it represents that even in times of hardship, they continue to receive attention and support from society. Concurrently, the beneficiaries expressed profound emotion and joy, considering the new homes a valuable gift for their families' lives and a significant relief from burdens they could not have managed on their own. They expressed deep gratitude to the Cambodian Red Cross, Banteay Meanchey Provincial Branch, and leaders at all levels for their attention in identifying and assisting truly needy families. They also pledged to maintain the homes well and strive to improve their family's livelihoods through their work. In addition to humanitarian work, HE Um Ratry reminded citizens to continue paying close attention to their health by following the Ministry of Health's guidelines, especially regarding hygiene, maintaining a clean living environment, and preventing various infectious and non-infectious diseases that could affect their health, lives, and family well-being. The continued provision of aid and humanitarian homes to vulnerable citizens in the community reaffirms that humanitarianism extends beyond material assistance during emergencies; it is about uniting efforts to enable those facing difficulties to stand up again and live with dignity. This also reflects the spirit of 'Continuing to Unite for Humanity,' which is being promoted for greater effectiveness at the local level. It should be noted that the two families who received homes are: 1) Mr. Mek Oeurn, 82 years old, male, with a family of 5 (3 females); and 2) Mrs. Heap Yav, 69 years old, female, with a family of 10 (5 females), residing in Tuk Khla commune, Serei Sophorn City, Banteay Meanchey. One of these families also received additional aid, including 50kg of rice, essential goods, food, and some cash. Seven pregnant women each received a health kit and some cash.
