Hoax Video Claiming Police Target President Jokowi Circulates on Social Media

A video falsely claiming that Indonesian President Joko Widodo has been declared a suspect and will be forcibly apprehended has been circulating on Facebook. Liputan6.com's fact-check has confirmed this claim to be false. The video, discovered on August 23, 2026, features a voiceover from someone identified as a police officer stating that the individual in question has failed to appear after two summonses and that "if they do not attend tomorrow, a warrant for their arrest will be issued, in accordance with Article 5 of the new Criminal Procedure Code (Law No. 20 of 2025), or forced apprehension under the old law." The caption accompanying the video alleges, "Jokowi has been declared a suspect for many cases in Indonesia." However, Liputan6.com's investigation using Google Lens found an identical post on Instagram by the account @ragamsulut.id, uploaded on May 11, 2026. This post did not involve President Jokowi. Instead, it featured the Regional Police Chief of North Sulawesi (Kapolda Sulut), Inspector General Roycke Harrie Langie, discussing the investigation into an alleged assault on a journalist within his jurisdiction. The post referred to the repeated failure of a suspect, Recky Montong, to appear for summonses related to the case. Based on this investigation, the claim that President Jokowi has been declared a suspect and faces forced apprehension by the police is a hoax.
