Mass Food Poisoning at Scavi Hue Factory, 121 Workers Hospitalized

A suspected mass food poisoning incident has occurred at the Scavi textile factory in Hue city, central Vietnam, with 121 workers reporting illness and being transported to medical facilities. As of the morning of September 12, 107 individuals are receiving treatment at Hue Central Hospital's second facility, and 14 at the Phong Dien Medical Center. Patients exhibit symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Initial examinations suggest acute gastroenteritis and suspected food poisoning. Medical facilities are admitting, treating, and monitoring patients based on their specific conditions. On the evening of September 11, Hue city leaders visited the medical facilities to visit and encourage the affected workers. They also assessed the situation and directed relevant forces to focus on resolving the incident. According to Mr. Tran Kiem Hao, Director of the Hue City Department of Health, medical professionals and specialized teams have been collecting samples for investigation throughout the night of September 11 and the morning of September 12. The samples were sent to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang for analysis and testing. The health sector is currently concentrating on identifying the cause, coordinating with local authorities and functional agencies for resolution. Factors related to the food source, meals, and individuals exhibiting unusual symptoms are under continuous verification. The health sector has not yet concluded the cause of the incident. The results of the analysis and testing of patient samples and related materials will form the basis for further clarification of the cause and appropriate handling measures.
