56 individuals involved in online scams and gambling arrested

It has been reported that on September 9th, around 4 PM, 56 individuals, including 5 male Chinese nationals, 25 male Myanmar nationals, and 26 female Myanmar nationals, who were involved in online scams and gambling, were arrested inside a residence in Wankaw Ward, Tachileik Township, Shan State (East). The arrests were made along with the seizure of 60 various computers, 5 Wi-Fi devices, 14 tables, 51 chairs, 2 unlicensed motor vehicles, and related accessories. It is understood that the joint team, including security forces, conducted investigations and detection operations based on information provided by responsible citizens regarding the presence of individuals involved in online scams and gambling within Tachileik Township, leading to these arrests. It has also been reported that those arrested for engaging in online scams and gambling will be dealt with strictly and severely in accordance with existing laws once the necessary investigations are completed, and the seized operational equipment will be processed further according to procedures. The government is reportedly prioritizing the search, detection, prevention, and deterrence of individuals involved in online scams and gambling, who illegally enter Myanmar and pose a comprehensive threat, causing damage to the socio-economic lives of not only the local populace but all humankind worldwide, as a national duty. Furthermore, coordination and cooperation with neighboring countries' governments are being undertaken for effective search, detection, arrest, and punitive actions. Additionally, it is understood that the state is actively continuing to collaborate with neighboring countries, regional nations, and international organizations in efforts to eradicate online scams and gambling and prevent their establishment within Myanmar.
