Cambodian Health Minister Emphasizes Primary Healthcare's Role in Saving Lives and Reducing Costs

H.E. Professor Chhang Ra, Minister of Health, stated that primary healthcare at health centers is crucial for saving patients from severe illnesses without incurring significant costs. During the 126th Leadership and Innovation session on August 4, 2026, the Minister urged health leaders at all levels and stakeholders to remain prepared for potential risks related to dengue fever outbreaks. He emphasized the need to intensify efforts in applying larvicides to water sources that serve as mosquito habitats within communities. Furthermore, H.E. Professor Chhang Ra reminded participants of the health center's function as the initial gateway for citizens accessing healthcare services. He stressed that all healthcare professionals must maintain appropriate conduct in treatment and rescue techniques, adapting to circumstances while prioritizing patient safety. The Minister also shared conclusions on leadership that lead to excellent work execution and posed reflective questions for leaders and health officials at all levels to consider and apply in their practical work. Concurrently, the Friendship Cambodia-Korea Health Center of Chheu Teal, the Health Department of Svay Rieng Provincial Administration, shared its experience in providing healthcare services to become a model health center in 2025. This positive outcome was attributed to the solidarity among staff, the provision of ideas and encouragement from the District Operational Health Office and the Provincial Health Department, as well as the leadership demonstrated by each staff member at the health center. Professor Chhang Ra, Minister of Health, led the 126th Leadership and Innovation session, attended by 2,849 health officials of all ranks under the Ministry of Health, via video conference (Zoom).
