Indonesia Seeks 2035 Bureaucratic Leaders Amid Lost ASN Career Ladder
Indonesia is seeking its next generation of bureaucratic leaders for 2035. However, with the unclear career path for civil servants (ASN), nurturing and securing talented individuals has become an urgent issue, potentially impacting future administrative services and policy execution.
The Indonesian government has begun exploring the development of the next generation of bureaucratic leaders with a view to 2035. This suggests that securing and nurturing talented individuals who will be responsible for future administrative services has become an urgent issue. However, the current situation where the career path for civil servants (ASN: Aparatur Sipil Negara) is becoming unclear poses a barrier to achieving this goal. With traditional seniority and clear promotion routes seemingly diminishing, it has become difficult for young civil servants and potential leader candidates to envision their long-term career development. This situation carries the risk of talented individuals choosing not to pursue a career in public service, or of existing talented personnel losing motivation, leading to a decline in the quality of administrative services and policy execution capabilities. To meet the needs of a diversifying society and achieve sustainable development, Indonesia urgently needs to strengthen its bureaucracy and review its human resource development strategy.
