Indonesia Unveils 194 km Green Hydrogen Corridor

Indonesia has announced plans to construct a 194-kilometer green hydrogen supply corridor connecting key industrial areas across the country. This initiative is a significant step towards accelerating the nation's energy transition and sustainable industrial development. The green hydrogen corridor aims to supply hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources for industrial use and fuel cell vehicles, among other applications. This endeavor seeks to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and cut greenhouse gas emissions. Indonesia, being one of the world's largest coal producers, faces an urgent need to diversify its energy mix. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has indicated that this green hydrogen corridor will link major industrial estates and port areas, potentially fostering the formation of new industrial clusters. The government is also considering future entry into the international hydrogen market. This plan is positioned as one of the concrete action plans towards Indonesia's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. The government intends to attract private investment and actively pursue international cooperation to realize the project. Indonesia possesses abundant renewable energy resources, particularly in solar and geothermal potential, making it a promising base for green hydrogen production. However, challenges such as infrastructure development, technological advancement, and cost reduction remain significant hurdles.
