Kampot Province Donates to Buddhist Monasteries for Buddhist Lent Festival

Kampot Province (July 30, 2026) – Accompanied by their subordinates, Governor Un Channda and Chairman of the Provincial Council Khloot Phon led officials to offer alms to monks residing in four pagodas within Kampot City, in observance of the Buddhist Lent (Vassa) period. The ceremony was conducted in a joyful atmosphere filled with deep devotion. The four pagodas that received the donations are Wat Khemvan Boeng Snay, Wat Chotnariram Boeng Kok, Wat Botum Ratanak Dei Doh, and Wat Sudarshanaram Chroy Thma. Each pagoda received a pair of traditional Vassa candles, 100 kilograms of rice, 50 cases of mineral water, 10 cases of canned beverages, one large box of fish in brine, five bottles of fish sauce, five bottles of soy sauce, five small boxes of instant noodles, one large box of condensed milk, 5 kilograms of sugar, 5 kilograms of tea leaves, and a sum of money. In addition, seven monks each received a set of alms, 200,000 Riel (approximately $50 USD) in cash, a serving of cooked rice, and a basket of fruits. The Buddhist Lent is a significant festival in Buddhism, marking a period for monks and novices to diligently study Buddhist teachings and discipline according to the Buddha's guidance. The participation of the Kampot Provincial Administration in supporting and promoting Buddhism during this Vassa festival is intended to contribute to the advancement of Buddhism, which is the state religion and the cornerstone of national morality.
