Chinese female live-streamer abducted in Myanmar, to be ransomed for $90,000, Chinese media reports

In the latest incident of being lured to work in an online scam hub in Southeast Asia, a Chinese online live-streamer host has been abducted in Myanmar and will be ransomed, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on September 23. Wang Yan, 24, was first lured to go to Thailand, Chinese state media reported. She later told a friend that she was being held against her will in Myanmar. According to Wang Yan's family members, they are demanding 600,000 yuan (approximately US$90,000) for her release. The family alleges that someone she knew online first persuaded her to come to Thailand for work. Ref: SCMP
