Bago River water level exceeds warning level and continues to rise, EOC opened and monitoring 24 hours

The water level of the Bago River within Bago Township continues to rise above the warning level, and an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been opened to monitor the situation 24 hours a day in order to respond promptly in the event of a flood disaster, according to sources from official departments in Bago City. The EOC has been established at the office of the Bago Region Red Cross Supervisory Committee and is monitoring the Bago River's water level, potential flood situations, and emergency conditions around the clock. According to a release from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at 12:30 PM on September 2, the Bago River's water level has exceeded the warning level of 880 centimeters and reached 917 centimeters. This water level is approximately 37 centimeters, or slightly over one foot, above the warning level, and it represents a further rise compared to the release at 6:30 AM. Currently, some wards and streets in Bago city are experiencing flooding, and there are areas where water has overflowed onto the old Yangon-Mandalay highway, according to local residents. Furthermore, due to the flooding, some residents from low-lying wards who are facing difficulties in their homes are being relocated to safer areas, according to local volunteer organizations. Local volunteer organizations, including members of the Bago City Fire Brigade, are providing necessary rescue assistance to residents who need to be evacuated due to the flood. In the event that the flood situation worsens, the EOC will coordinate and cooperate with relevant departments and organizations to minimize damage, ensure timely evacuation of residents, and carry out emergency rescue operations. Currently, the Bago River's water level remains above the warning level, and relevant authorities are continuing to monitor the rising river water and rainfall conditions.
