Cambodia and China High Praise for Security Cooperation Progress

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and China's Vice Minister of Public Security Yang Weilin have highly praised the progress of security cooperation between the two countries. This assessment was made during a meeting held at the Peace Palace on September 23, 2026, between delegations from both nations, who were attending an international conference on combating cyber fraud from September 22-25, 2026. During the meeting, Vice Minister Yang conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to Prime Minister Hun Manet, expressing gratitude for his time. He also lauded Cambodia's rapid development across all sectors, leading to improved living standards for its people. Furthermore, he highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations and the construction of a "China-Cambodia community of shared future in the new era," noting the elevation of dialogue from "2+2" to "3+3" to include Cambodia's Ministry of Interior and China's Ministry of Public Security. He particularly emphasized the importance of continued close bilateral cooperation, especially in jointly combating cross-border crimes and cyber fraud. Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his pleasure at meeting with the Vice Minister and his delegation. He conveyed his gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their continuous support for Cambodia's socio-economic development. He expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Cambodia and China thus far, including efforts to strengthen security, share information, and enhance the capacity of Cambodian law enforcement officials. Regarding the crackdown on cyber fraud, the Prime Minister affirmed the government's commitment to eradicating it from Cambodian soil. He added that Cambodia cannot tackle this issue alone and requires cooperation from partner countries. Additionally, the Prime Minister discussed Cambodia-China cooperation in promoting tourism and enhancing people-to-people ties, specifically encouraging more Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia, emphasizing that Cambodia is a safe, warm, and welcoming tourist destination.
