DICT Considers Legal Action if Meta Talks Fail on Child Protection

MANILA, Philippines — While the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is willing to sit down again and discuss with social media company Meta how they can jointly protect children, continuous failure to arrive at an agreement may lead to cases, Secretary Henry Aguda said. Aguda, in a press briefing at the Batasang Pambansa complex, said that the "door for dialogue is open" with Meta. "We are willing to sit down again and discuss with them," he said. He added that they are hoping for a positive outcome. "We are hoping that we will be able to come to an agreement," he said. Aguda said that the DICT is also working with other government agencies to ensure the safety of children online. He added that they are also coordinating with international organizations to share best practices and information on child protection.
