BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — The Nueva Vizcaya provincial government is racing to get a P905.6-million infrastructure program back on track after projects were hit by election restrictions, permit delays, typhoons, failed bidding and soaring construction costs. Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Engineer Jerry A. Tan said the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) is handling 61 projects, with budgets and procurement plans being adjusted to push delayed works forward. The program covers roads, bridges, hospital buildings, livestock facilities, and other provincial projects. Mr. Tan said the setbacks began with the 2025 election ban, delayed environmental permits, and the impact of Super Typhoons Pepito and Uwan. This year, some projects again stalled after attracting no bidders, while higher construction costs linked to the Middle East conflict forced budget revisions. Nueva Vizcaya Governor Jose V. Gambito hailed the PEO for resolving the bottlenecks and quickly responding to damaged provincial roads following successive heavy rains. He said the office has remained on the ground for emergency assessments and repairs. The governor also declared plans to establish a PEO satellite office between Bambang and Aritao, bringing engineering and disaster-response services closer to communities in southern Nueva Vizcaya as the province pushes to speed up infrastructure delivery. — Artemio A.
