Opera Star Quoc Hung Appointed Director of Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music

People's Artist (NSND) Quoc Hung, a leading opera singer in Vietnam, has been appointed as the new Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. The appointment decision was presented at a ceremony at the conservatory on July 25, presided over by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong. Quoc Hung expressed his gratitude to the board of directors, staff, faculty, and students for the warm reception. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Dr. Do Quoc Hung, 56, was born in Dong Anh, Hanoi. He entered the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, the predecessor of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, in 1991. He pursued his studies from intermediate to university and postgraduate levels, successfully defending his doctoral dissertation in music. He has dedicated over 30 years to studying, teaching, and performing at what is considered the largest music training institution in the country. Quoc Hung is recognized as one of Vietnam's foremost bass singers and is a student of People's Artist Tran Hieu. He won first prize in the National Chamber Music and Opera Singing Competition in 2000 and received a golden cup at the Pyongyang International Music Festival in 2004. He has performed extensively in Germany, North Korea, and Russia. He was invited to work at the Hannover State Opera in Germany after training and performing there in 1998 but chose to return to Vietnam to continue his teaching career. Beyond his performance career, Quoc Hung is also involved in scientific research and authored the book "Opera Singer Training in Vietnam," based on his doctoral thesis. His notable students include artists Hoang Tung, Truong Bac, singer Quang Ha, and singer-producer Nguyen Tran Trung Quan. In 2019, he was awarded the title of People's Artist by the State. In 2025, he is slated to open the parade and procession ceremonies commemorating April 30th in Ho Chi Minh City. Earlier this year, he collaborated with artist Thu Hang to release the music video "Dat Nuoc Hom Nay" (Today's Homeland), an epic song depicting the nation's construction and progress.
