Myanmar exported about 1 million tons of corn to Thailand

Myanmar was able to export about 1 million tons of corn during the 7-month duty-free period to Thailand, according to the Myanmar Corn and Paddy Business Association. Thailand has been allowing duty-free export of Myanmar corn for 7 months every year, from February to the end of August. On the other hand, Thailand tends to suspend purchases of corn during its harvest season, from September of the first year to the end of January of the following year, for five months. Myanmar corn was exported to Thailand through the Tachileik-Mae Sai border trade, Yangon-Kawthaung-Ranong maritime trade, and Myawaddy border trade routes. Although corn prices were high in Thailand this year, exports decreased slightly due to low domestic production. Myanmar corn is mostly exported to the markets of Thailand and the Philippines. A responsible person from the Myanmar Corn and Paddy Business Association said that the duty-free period for export to Thailand has now ended, and exports to the Philippines are expected to continue. It is understood that domestic corn prices are currently at a high level due to active purchasing by domestic feed mills.
