Myanmar man gets 40 years in prison for forcing children into sexual abuse and selling recorded videos

Mizzima A man who lured children in Insein Township, Yangon Region, drugged them with psychotropic substances, forced them to engage in same-sex sexual acts, and filmed and sold the videos has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, according to the 30 July issue of the military junta-controlled newspaper. The incidents occurred in Phawt Kan Ward, Insein Township. The man identified as Myo Min Htun aka Phoe Thar lured three children, including an 11-year-old residing in Insein Township, to his home. He then deceived them into drinking psychotropic substances, claiming they were soft drinks. Police records reveal that while the children were unconscious, he sexually assaulted one child, forced the other two to engage in same-sex sexual acts, and repeatedly filmed the abuse. Furthermore, he sold the recorded video files for profit via the Telegram messaging application. Regarding the incidents, the Yangon Child Protection Task Force acted as the complainant, and the Insein Myoma Police Station filed charges against the perpetrator under Section 35 of the Suppression of Human Trafficking Law. Subsequently, on 27 July the Insein District Court sentenced Myo Min Htun aka Phoe Thar under Section 35 of the Suppression of Human Trafficking Law to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for each count of charge, totalling 40 years to be served consecutively. Due to the recent rise in crimes targeting children, a parent in Yangon urged other parents to closely monitor their children’s daily activities and security.
