Cambodia, China Vow to Deepen Economic Ties, Stamp Out Cyber Fraud

Cambodia and China pledged to bolster bilateral trade, expand investment, and crack down on technology-based fraud during the second Cambodia-China Government-Private Sector Dialogue held Thursday in Phnom Penh. Co-chaired by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wenbin, the high-level forum brought together government officials and representatives from more than 70 Chinese enterprises operating in the Kingdom. The initiative aims to streamline investment procedures, resolve operational challenges, and boost investor confidence under the two nations' "diamond cooperation" framework. Addressing the forum, H.E. Sun Chanthol underscored the Royal Government of Cambodia's firm political will to eradicate technology-based financial crimes and secure a safe business environment. He announced that Phnom Penh will host the International Conference on Combating Online Scams on Sept. 23-24, demonstrating Cambodia's commitment to regional security and cross-border cooperation. "The Royal Government of Cambodia remains fully committed to deep institutional reforms and modernising the CDC to attract, facilitate, and protect foreign investments with maximum efficiency," H.E. Sun Chanthol said, adding that he will lead upcoming investment promotion delegations to Xiamen and Shenzhen to attract further capital inflows. For his part, Ambassador Wang praised the Cambodian Royal Government’s swift resolution of issues raised by Chinese businesses during the initial dialogue session. He noted that the mechanism serves as a practical bridge to deepen the bilateral strategic partnership and drive sustainable economic development. The meeting reviewed progress from the first dialogue, briefed investors on regulatory updates, and established a direct channel for Chinese enterprise executives to address member ministries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to institutionalising the dialogue as a permanent mechanism for economic cooperation.
