Rights Groups Demand Probe into Alleged Illegal Interrogation of Youth Activists

RIGHTS and legal groups are calling for an independent investigation into alleged illegal interrogations of youth activists arrested during President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address. The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers, Public Interest Law Center, Sentro Para sa Tunay na Repormang Agraryo and Pro-Labor Legal Assistance Center said at least seven detainees were questioned without counsel at a Quezon City Police District facility. The coalition said interrogators posing as lawyers from the Commission on Human Rights and the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers used a secret report to pressure the detainees. The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers denied any affiliation with the people who conducted the questioning.
