Vietnam, RoK to Bolster Scientific Research Cooperation

Vietnam and South Korea have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the field of scientific research. This enhanced cooperation is seen as a crucial step in advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries into a new phase. A forum was established to facilitate academic exchange, policy dialogue, and networking among research institutions, policymakers, experts, scholars, and relevant organizations from both nations. This platform also served to put forward policy recommendations for the further development of bilateral relations. This move to bolster cooperation is expected to deepen the alignment between Vietnam's economic growth strategies and South Korea's investments in advanced technology sectors. Collaboration in talent development, particularly in semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI), is anticipated to contribute to Vietnam's industrial upgrading. Vietnam, under its one-party system, has achieved steady economic growth, primarily driven by its manufacturing and export sectors. South Korea is a significant investor and trading partner for Vietnam, with both nations targeting a bilateral trade volume of $100 billion. Enhanced cooperation in science and technology is likely to provide a tailwind towards achieving this goal. Furthermore, cooperation in the press sector in the digital age is also progressing, aiming to promote information sharing and mutual understanding. This aligns with Vietnam's efforts to broaden its international relations and enhance its information dissemination capabilities. While maintaining a complex relationship with China, Vietnam strategically builds relationships with diverse countries, including the United States, South Korea, and Japan. Strengthening scientific and technological cooperation with South Korea is expected to contribute to improving Vietnam's technological capabilities and international competitiveness, while also potentially enhancing Vietnam's regional presence.
