AI Summary

Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce hosted the 3rd Cambodia Digital Trade Forum, aiming to build an efficient, trusted, and inclusive digital trade ecosystem by 2030. The focus is on expanding opportunities for SMEs, rural entrepreneurs, and women through digitalization.

The Ministry of Commerce organized the "3rd Cambodia Digital Trade Forum and Online Expo – DTF" for three days, from September 11 to 13, 2026. Under the theme "Promoting Cambodia's Digital Trade Towards 2030," the forum aims to accelerate the building of an efficient, trusted, and inclusive digital trade ecosystem, thereby strengthening the productivity, competitiveness, and market access of Cambodian enterprises towards the year 2030. The opening ceremony was held on the evening of Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center (Building G-L). The event was presided over by Her Excellency Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and was attended by leaders from ministries and institutions, diplomatic representatives, development partners, the private sector, entrepreneurs, and numerous national and international guests. In her address, Her Excellency the Minister highlighted that the forum was first initiated in 2024 as an accompanying event to the Cambodia Trade Fair, before evolving into a standalone event in 2025. Building on the experience and positive outcomes of the previous two editions, the Ministry of Commerce has expanded the scope of the forum in 2026 to further promote the construction of an efficient, trusted, and inclusive digital trade ecosystem, and to enhance the productivity, competitiveness, and market access of Cambodian enterprises towards 2030. Her Excellency the Minister emphasized the necessity for Cambodia to continue strengthening both hard and soft infrastructure for digital trade, in line with the government's priorities. The Ministry of Commerce is collaborating with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to develop the "Cambodia Trade Policy Framework Towards 2030" and the "Digital Trade Strategy 2025-2030." Furthermore, efforts are underway to strengthen the CambodiaTrade.com platform to ensure that the private sector, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially entrepreneurs in rural areas and women entrepreneurs, can expand their business opportunities, increase productivity, and participate more broadly in the digital value chain. Revenue from e-commerce in Cambodia is projected to reach approximately US$1.1 billion in 2025 and could increase to around US$1.8 billion by 2029. To collectively drive the development of the digital trade sector in Cambodia, Her Excellency provided seven recommendations: 1. Build a trusted digital trade environment; 2. Transform technology, especially artificial intelligence, into productivity and competitiveness; 3. Prepare Cambodia to gain tangible benefits from DEFA and regional markets; 4. Connect digital infrastructure into a single, efficient trading system; 5. Facilitate easier cross-border sales for Cambodian enterprises; 6. Ensure digital opportunities become economic opportunities for everyone; and 7. Create partnerships that lead to tangible and measurable results. The three-day forum features numerous key programs, including High-Level Leadership Discussions, a Hackathon, a TEDxPhnomPenh Salon, a Women in Digital Trade session, a Youth Debate, an exhibition of Cambodian products, and a concert. These programs aim to bridge policy discussions with implementation, training, technology testing, business connectivity, and the creation of real market opportunities.
