Vietnam's Defense, Public Security, and Foreign Ministries Enhance Coordination at Diplomatic Conference

Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a joint session during the 33rd Diplomatic Conference to discuss strengthening coordination and enhancing their roles in the new era. The meeting, held on August 3rd, focused on "Promoting the Pioneering Role and Executing the Important and Regular Tasks of Vietnam's Diplomacy in the New Era." It was chaired by General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, all of whom are Politburo members. Attendees included leaders from key departments of the three ministries and Vietnamese Ambassadors and heads of representative missions abroad who were in the country for the Diplomatic Conference. The session aimed to assess the global and regional situations and their implications for Vietnam's defense, security, and foreign affairs, in line with the directives of the 14th Party Congress. A key agenda item was the review of coordination efforts between the three ministries since the signing of their Coordination Regulation in December 2025. Discussions also focused on future strategies to improve the quality and effectiveness of their collaboration to better address the nation's ongoing defense, security, and foreign policy needs. Presentations highlighted specific contributions: the Ministry of National Defense emphasized international integration and defense diplomacy within the broader context of Party, state, and people-to-people diplomacy. The Ministry of Public Security showcased the unique advantages of public security diplomacy in executing comprehensive foreign strategies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented its findings on coordinated efforts in defense, security, and foreign affairs execution. In their joint remarks, the ministers underscored the intrinsic link between defense, security, and foreign affairs for national development and security. They reiterated the Party's policy of integrating socio-economic development with these critical areas. Notably, the 14th Party Congress Resolution designated diplomacy, international integration, defense, and security as "important and regular" tasks for the entire political system. Given the rapid global changes and the imperative for swift, sustainable national development and proactive defense, the ministers stressed the increased urgency for enhanced inter-ministerial coordination. They acknowledged the significant achievements of past collaborations and urged continued adherence to Party and State policies, including the 14th Party Congress's foreign policy and Politburo Resolution No. 06-NQ/TW. Future efforts will focus on effective implementation of the Coordination Regulation, emphasizing clear roles, proactive information exchange, and innovative approaches to research, strategic forecasting, diplomatic activities, and training. The goal is to adeptly meet the evolving demands of defense, security, and foreign affairs in Vietnam's new development phase.
