Ambassador of Cambodia to South Korea, Khun Phonrattana, has requested cooperation from Nonsan City, South Korea, for the modernization of Cambodia's agricultural sector, particularly focusing on industrial crops such as rice and cashews. He also urged the city to consider introducing its advanced strawberry cultivation techniques to Cambodia. The request was made during a meeting between Ambassador Khun Phonrattana and Mayor Baek Seong-hyeon of Nonsan City at the Nonsan City Hall in South Chungcheong Province on Friday, September 4, 2026. Ambassador Khun highlighted Nonsan City's development plans and potential, expressing that agricultural cooperation would contribute to Cambodia's progress. In addition to agriculture, the ambassador also sought the city's support in promoting cooperation between Konyang University and Cambodian military universities. In response, Mayor Baek stated his ambition to develop Nonsan City into a hub with potential in the military and agricultural sectors during his second term. He also extended an invitation to Ambassador Khun to attend the "2027 Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo," scheduled to be held in early 2027. Discussions also covered the direction of cooperation between the Cambodian Embassy and Nonsan City, as well as efforts to protect the interests of Cambodian citizens residing in the Nonsan area.
