Cambodia Cracks Down on Online Scam Operations, Arrests Three in Banteay Meanchey

In Serei Sophorn City, Banteay Meanchey Province, northwestern Cambodia, authorities have cracked down on a location suspected of being an online scam operation. At 10:40 AM on September 21, 2026, the Provincial Administrative Unity Command and Serei Sophorn City authorities conducted an inspection at a rented house in Village 4, Preah Ponlea Commune, based on information about cybercriminal activities. The operation was led by Deputy Governor Hill Raya, representing Governor Oum Ratry, who also heads the Provincial Administrative Unity Command. Accompanying him were Sreng Sophal, the Governor of Serei Sophorn City, along with forces from the Provincial Police Commissionerate, City Police Inspectorate, Provincial and City Gendarmerie, and with procedural coordination from Sao Vuthy, Deputy Prosecutor of the Provincial Court. During the crackdown, authorities discovered and detained three individuals (two women) suspected of involvement. Seized evidence includes three All-in-One computers and three assorted mobile phones. Currently, all seized evidence has been handed over to the Anti-Cybercrime Department for forensic analysis. The three suspects have been transferred to the Minor Offenses Criminal Office for questioning and further legal proceedings. On the same day, the Provincial Administrative Unity Command and Serei Sophorn City authorities also conducted administrative checks at two other suspicious locations, but nothing significant was found.
