Quang Tri Border Seizes 633kg of Fireworks, Intensifying Crackdown Ahead of Lunar New Year

In the border area of the central Vietnamese province of Quang Tri, two Lao nationals were arrested for illegally transporting 633kg of fireworks. Although the Lunar New Year (Tet) is still some time away, the high market value of fireworks means that cross-border illegal trafficking continues unabated. The seizure occurred at the Cha Lo International Border Gate. Vietnamese authorities are strengthening their vigilance to crack down on illegal fireworks smuggling by organized crime groups across the border. In the past, multiple incidents involving the seizure of hundreds of kilograms of illegal fireworks have occurred in Quang Tri province, and there is a notable trend of intensifying crackdowns ahead of the Lunar New Year. In Vietnam, the law strictly regulates the manufacturing, sale, transportation, and storage of fireworks by individuals. However, as the Lunar New Year approaches, demand for fireworks and other pyrotechnics tends to increase, leading to a more active black market. Authorities are committed to continuing strict enforcement against these illegal activities, which pose a threat to public safety.
