Vietnam Elevates Science-Technology Cooperation to New Strategic Pillar, Bolstering International Ties

National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man, during his visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK), stressed the promotion of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and South Korea, calling for strengthened cooperation in economic, trade, and investment fields, particularly by leveraging science and technology as a new pillar. The visit aims to foster parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries and contribute to breakthroughs in economic, trade, and investment cooperation. President Man noted that Korean non-governmental organizations, associations, scientists, and businesses have significantly contributed to major achievements recorded in Vietnam-RoK relations over the years. Separately, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam expressed firm belief that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia would continue to develop strongly, substantively, and effectively. This marks the first state visit to Russia by Vietnam's head of Party and State since 1991, offering an opportunity to inject fresh momentum into bilateral cooperation. President To Lam also anticipated that the Vietnam–Myanmar Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership would record new strides that are more comprehensive, effective, and substantive. Furthermore, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung highlighted local cooperation as an important pillar of Vietnam-Japan relations, stating that the Vietnamese Government considers it a practical and effective channel that contributes to the overall development of bilateral ties. PM Hung called on Japanese businesses to continue trusting and choosing Vietnam as a long-term investment destination, expand their operations, and work more closely with Vietnamese partners to fully tap the substantial potential for cooperation between the two economies. These visits are significant for implementing Vietnam's foreign policy and concretizing orientations and agreements reached at the senior leadership level. Vietnam has reaffirmed its commitment and desire to further advance its comprehensive strategic partnerships with the RoK and comprehensive partnership with Mongolia in an increasingly substantive, effective, and sustainable manner. In related news, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Hoang Trung was dismissed from office for violations and shortcomings in his work, which can be interpreted as part of the disciplinary and governance reinforcement efforts within Vietnam's one-party system.
