Vietnam Bolsters Diplomacy and Defense Ties with Multiple Nations

Vietnam is actively strengthening its traditional friendship and Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with India, with defense cooperation and exchanges between the two navies expected to deepen. European nations have reaffirmed their commitment to long-term cooperation with Vietnam and the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing naval cooperation, respect for international law, and freedom of navigation. Similarly, efforts are underway to bolster ties with Canada, aligning with the countries' policy of promoting their Comprehensive Partnership and fostering mutual trust. Domestically, border and territorial affairs are considered a key task by the Party and State, aimed at safeguarding sovereignty, preserving a peaceful environment, and strengthening friendly relations with neighboring countries. Vietnam's multilateral diplomacy is transitioning from active participation to proactive contribution, from following international rules to helping shape them, and from consolidating its position to leveraging it for national development and safeguarding the Fatherland. Local-level diplomacy is also seeing increased activity, with over 900 international agreements signed or renewed and more than 2,500 international conferences and seminars licensed and staged. Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) are recognized as a vital source of capital, knowledge, science and technology, and management expertise, contributing significantly to national development. In defense, cooperation with Italy's Leonardo S.p.A., a leader in high-tech industries including defense, aerospace, and cybersecurity, is noted. The company's experience in border surveillance and critical infrastructure protection is of particular interest. Defense cooperation is also highlighted as a key pillar of bilateral ties with Australia. Vietnam places great importance on its relationship with New Zealand, welcoming the increasingly robust development of bilateral ties. Cooperation with Laos is also being strengthened, with a focus on enhancing ties between the two parties and countries. Domestically, the National Assembly's (NA) supervisory function is emphasized as a crucial mechanism for exercising control over state power, ensuring the implementation of the Constitution and laws, driving institutional reform, and reinforcing public confidence. The swift translation of the 14th National Party Congress vision into actionable policy directives is expected to inspire confidence in Vietnam's future development trajectory.
